The son of a U.S. diplomat, J.R. Roth grew up overseas—mostly in Africa and the Middle East. After college, he spent two decades working in international affairs, where he encountered the complexity of human behavior, global events, and the consequences of decisions made under uncertainty. He now draws on those experiences to write speculative fiction exploring how humanity responds when faced with challenges it cannot easily understand.
J.R. Roth has always been fascinated by the moment when the familiar becomes unfamiliar—the instant when people realize the world is not what they thought it was. Writing allows him to explore those moments and the choices people make when confronted with the impossible.
J.R. Roth’s short fiction has appeared in The Raven Review and on 101Words.com. He is the creator of The Ahbta Legacy series, beginning with The Silent Arrival, and is currently writing the second installment.
