Making Friends Everywhere I Go

I recently joined a local writers’ guild. As part of the introduction process, I was asked to write a short bio for the monthly newsletter and encouraged to look through a previous issue to see what everyone else had done.

Simple enough.

As I flipped through the newsletter, a photograph near the bottom of one page caught my eye. It was an ordinary picture, but something about it refused to let go. Within moments, a story had taken shape in my head.

The picture that launched a thousand words. (Closer to 400, but who’s counting?)

I couldn’t resist.

For maximal effect, I disguised my story as a letter from me and even borrowed the naming convention used for the newsletter’s other sections. Fortunately, the editors had a good sense of humor.

So, without further ado, I present Missives from the Membership.”
